Another treasure is the richly carved furniture set consisting of 21 pieces – the so-called Golden Salon. It was crafted by the royal French cabinetmaker Georg Jacob from linden wood gilded with 24-carat gold.
The embroidered silk upholstery was handcrafted at the Phillippa de la Salle manufactory in Lyon. It was a gift from Empress Maria Theresa to her youngest daughter, Marie Antoinette, who, along with her husband, King Louis XVI of France, was executed in 1793. Ferdinand Coburg acquired the furniture at an auction in Paris in the 1930s.
